Hello,
I’m Alex - a person-centred counsellor and registered member of the BACP. I am passionate about the importance of mental wellbeing and greatly value individual life experiences.
I work one-to-one with adults (aged 18+) and can support either short-term or long-term over weekly or fortnightly sessions, depending on your therapeutic needs. I work remotely and can offer either video call (Zoom) or telephone counselling sessions.
I approach counselling with empathy, sincerity and collaboration. These are core values that underpin my practice so that we can work together compassionately, with purpose and without judgement.
I worked with a broad range of clients during my counselling training and I have experience of supporting a variety of challenges. Having also volunteered for a bereavement support organisation for several years, I have in-depth experience of working with clients experiencing bereavement and loss.
I also have a special interest in emetophobia (fear of vomiting). For more information, please click here.
To find out about my approach to counselling, and how I may be able to support you, please see below.

Person-Centred Counselling
I am a person-centred counsellor, meaning that I am trained to work in alignment with person-centred counselling theory, which originates from the work of Carl Rogers in the mid 1900s and is a humanistic approach.
Person-centred theory is based on the idea that a client is the expert in their own experience and, when met with empathy, congruence and unconditional positive regard in a therapeutic relationship with a counsellor, has the ability to to find greater understanding and grow to live in a way that is true to who they are, also known as ‘self-actualisation’.
In practice, person-centred counselling, as the name suggests, puts the person (client) at the centre of the work. The client, and what they would like to talk about, lead the counselling sessions. The therapist’s role is to walk alongside the client, supporting them in finding greater clarity about themselves, their experience and how they would like to move forwards.
Where other approaches to counselling may include practical exercises, a focus on the past, or a focus on the present, person-centred counselling can feel somewhat ‘unstructured’ and the aim of this is to enable a client to navigate towards areas that feel most relevant to talk about, and determine where best to focus their time within the sessions. Person-centred counselling can be effective in both short-term and long-term work.
